DUXCOM is dead - long live XHAM!

The Official gHg XCOM: Enemy Unknown ("XHAM") Tournament
    Signups Open: July 31st
    Signups Close: August 6th

    Format
    • No DLC/Mods/Expansions
    • 1v1 Multiplayer Matches
    • 10,000pts Squads
    • Single elimination, best 2 out of 3

    Bracket: Challonge!

    ~

We ran this event during the year of Riturnaments and it went over reasonably well. Let's see if lightning can strike twice, shall we? As always, this is a bragging-rights, just-for-fun, enjoy-yourself tournament. Splat some aliens, corrupt some humans and try not to grimace too hard when the netcode goes wonky.

According to 2K Games' forums, PC users should have the option to toggle between the base game, Enemy Unknown (EU) and the expansion, Enemy Within (EW). With that in mind, we will be playing on EU mode only unless all players have EW. This way, we don't exclude anyone who couldn't afford or didn't want the expansion.

If you're interested, please make sure to include your Steam name (and, if you have one, your Challonge username) so your opponents can find you.

SIGNUPS ARE OPEN! I've changed the signup period to a week long - I have a massive project mid-August so if I can get all the matches done before then that'd be grand.

Hey, I can't take credit for the RNG knowing who the boss-man is. Such is the mysterious and wonderful hand of the RNG. All hail the RNG.
(Incidentally, this is my pre-XCOM ritual chant. All hail the RNG.)

Ptrol wins in round 3, despite my epic wallhacks.

XHAM AFTER ACTION REPORT -- STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL

First round involved a cross-map shootout on the top of some trains, but ultimately wound up with me getting the first sniper shot in, and using my sniper to rain death from above while the ground forces closed in.

Second round took place in the graveyard. I sat a sniper on the back of the map, and advanced forward in a broad line. Flightless got a tiny bit lost on the way to the battlefield... but it wound up meaning he was in a position of strength with two snipers perched in the back. A few well placed snipes, and a rolling fog of smoke later, Flightless hunted down each and every one of my soldiers, easily clinching it.

The decisive round happened in the police station, with Flightless sending in a team of floaters to seize the roof, surprising me as I tried to grapple two assaults up there. My two assaults just barely limped through there, dodging shots with no cover but a few shreds of smoke, and eating grenades to the face. Flightless's soldiers, backed into a corner, activated their secret wallhack technology, and smashed a door or two before wiping the floor with my assaults. Still, matrix-powers aside, everything that bleeds can be killed, resulting in a 2-1 game.

    GG!

Cat took it 2:0 over 4 games (yay bugs!)
Unfortunately my elite sniper was done in by deciding to dash into the open despite the move looking like a normal move (there was a super awesome grappling shot lined up, alas it was not to be). With no ammo in his gun and no where to run cats two solders hunted him down and shot him ruthlessly.

I'm not sure if you saw it on your feed. But on my feed my dude phased past the door, which should have been open already as several people had passed by, but still showed as closed for me and didnt let me see or shoot threw it. Kitty Pryde soldier was then standing inbetween two of your soldiers with neither of them displayed as targets until my other soldier on the other side of the wall runs away aimlessly before he decides he has a clear high percentage shot behind him, through a banister, a shelf, and solid wall. After 360noscope wallhacking one of the two flankers the remainer shows up for Kitty Pryde, who having phased past the door decides it is now time to bash the door before shooting remaining flanker in the face. It was the best 2 killcams back to back, and I wouldnt want to play multiplayer xcom any other way.

It was a close second round, but Cat ended up trouncing me in two rounds. Who knew Mutons could be so effective?
